Bobby Hill says he will “take a break from football” as Collingwood confirmed the club and Norm Smith medallist have mutually agreed to part ways.

Hill was contracted for another four seasons, on a reported $750,000 per year, but is set to walk away from the Magpies as a delisted free agent.

The club released a statement on Friday morning, which featured a brief message from Hill.

“I’ll always be proud to have been part of this club and thankful for the opportunity to represent Collingwood – I leave with memories I’ll cherish forever,” Hill said.

“I’m going to take a break from football to keep working on myself and regain my passion for the game.”

Hill played 61 games across almost four seasons at Collingwood, including the 2023 premiership, but did not feature in a single game this year.

Collingwood said the 26-year-old had not met his commitments to the club, leading to his exit.

“The club has been working with Bobby over the past 12 months to put support structures in place to help him work through some personal matters,” Executive General Manager of Football Charlie Gardiner said.

“Despite this, Bobby has unfortunately struggled to meet his commitments to the club consistently this year and agreed that taking a break from football is the best decision for him and his family.

“Bobby will always be recognised as a premiership player and a Norm Smith Medallist at Collingwood and we wish him all the very best.”

It’s understood Hill will look to continue his career at a third club, having spent four seasons at Greater Western Sydney prior to joining Collingwood at the end of 2022.
