Carlton postpone ‘membership day’ on SEN after shock Round 1 loss to Richmond

Carlton have gone to ground in the wake of their shock loss to Richmond on Thursday night, and taken immediate action.
The club was planning to have a “membership day” — on sports radio station SEN — on Friday (today) to promote new offers and deals for their fans
Typically, 4-5 players would go on air across the day to help the club spruik memberships.

Despite the network confirming that the event had been postponed on Thursday night, SEN was still advertising the Carlton promotion early on Friday morning before the on-air ads were taken down at around 6.30am AEDT.
High-profile Carlton fan and host of Channel 7’s Front Bar, Andy Maher, had been called on for the voice-over of the campaign push.
“Footy is even better when you’re a member and today you’re in luck Bluebaggers because it’s Carlton membership day,” a cheery Maher said in the pre-recorded ad early on Friday morning.
SEN talent and former AFL star Josh Jenkins was also discussing the promotion on social media on Friday.
“It’s CARLTON membership day on SEN,” Jenkins said on X (formerly Twitter).
“Oh boy o boy ... reckon they’ll sell a few !?!??”
A SEN spokesperson told 7NEWS.com.au that the network and Carlton “mutually decided” to postpone the event.
The spokesperson made it clear that both parties made the arrangement on Friday, and it was not as if players had not shown up.
The spokesperson said it just made sense not to go ahead with the membership day with fans obviously feeling deflated after the loss.
A Carlton spokesperson said the dates were never locked in for membership days, and such events were always tentative.
The spokesperson said the club was provided with a series of dates, and had the option of selecting an appropriate one.
Carlton had not even nominated players to head in to the SEN studios for the promotion, the spokesperson said.
“Nothing is set in stone with these things,” the spokesperson said.
