Dual All Australian defender Dan Houston was looking on track to become a Blue, instead, in a cruel blow to Carlton fans he could actually end up a Magpie.

The Port Adelaide star told the Power late last month he wanted to be traded after meeting with Carlton, Collingwood, St Kilda and the Western Bulldogs earlier last month.

Disgruntled Collingwood player John Noble could be the man to get Houston to Collingwood after he told the Magpies he wanted to go north for family reasons to possibly play with the Gold Coast Suns.

Noble is still unhappy he did not play in Collingwood’s 2023 grand final win.

For the deal to work Noble would go to the Suns in exchange for their pick 13 in the draft along with something else.

Collingwood would then trade that pick 13 to Port Adelaide along with something else for Houston.

The Blues could trade their pick 12 to get Houston from the Power, but it has been reported they are not willing to give that up as they want a top-level rookie.

Port Adelaide won’t release Houston without a first round draft pick which they currently lack.

The Kangaroos have the high draft picks to also make a run at getting Houston, but he wants to go to a club with real hope of winning a premiership.

Houston on August 30 said he wanted to remain at Port but maintained he later changed his mind a month later after Port’s up and down season was over.

“I have informed the club that my preference is to play in Victoria next year,” Houston said on September 24.

“Obviously over the last few weeks I have had a fluctuation of emotions and if the deal can’t get done I am happy to stay at Port Adelaide, I love the club.

“That is all I am going to say.”

Houston won his second All Australian blazer this season but was suspended for five games and missed Port’s finals campaign, which ended with a six-goal preliminary final loss to Sydney.
