Geelong coach Chris Scott questioned over decision to sub out Rhys Stanley over Jeremy Cameron
Geelong fans have blown up over master coach Chris Scott’s decision to sub out ruck Rhys Stanley instead of key forward Jeremy Cameron who was clearly injured for a large part of Saturday’s grand final.
As the Cats were copping plenty of Brisbane heat, Scott decided to inject Jack Martin into the game in the final quarter.

After the game, Cameron’s arm was in a sling, and captain Patrick Dangerfield said he “heard a pretty big snap during the game” when the forward went down.
Despite that, Scott and his coaching team kept him on the ground.
“It’s interesting it’s a work place when it suits but keeping a player playing when he’s clearly in distress is questionable,” one fan said.
And another: “Why was he still on the ground in the last quarter when the game was cooked?”
And another: “What must be going through Rhys Stanley’s head. Being subbed off instead of the bloke with a Broken Arm. Rough.”
And another: “And you all wonder why Chris Scott hasn’t won a coaching award.”
When Geelong announced that Stanley was out of the game, a fan was quick to respond: “Did you mean to say Cameron? The man’s arm is cooked.”
And another fan said: “Absolute masterclass from Chris Fagan. Questions over Scott.”
Fans were also losing it when Cameron was off the ground and getting assessed from the medicos.
“Chris Scott has frozen in the coaches box, Cameron 20 minutes on the bench while Jack Martin is sitting there,” one fan fumed.
There were plenty of unpublishable comments about Scott’s inertia, too.
After the game, Scott addressed the situation, saying he hoped it didn’t sound like “sour grapes” but he would be “rapt to see the back of the sub rule”.
“That was the seriousness of the injury. It makes planning difficult. We were just waiting and waiting and waiting, we couldn’t make that sub while waiting for clarity there.
“Is it a crack, is it a decent break? Can he play, can’t he?
“It took a long time to work out but he was heavily limited from late in the second quarter.”
“I don’t think you have any choice but to submit yourself to the medical team and give them the space to do what they need to do.”
