Channel 7 AFL expert Kane Cornes says Western Bulldogs coach Luke Beveridge will not see out the 2025 season in charge.

Beveridge is entering the final year of his current contract with the Dogs under an enormous amount of pressure to perform, given the elite talent he has at his disposal.

With arguably the game’s best player Marcus Bontempelli alongside reigning All-Australian Adam Treloar and star ruck Tim English in the middle, rare key position talents Sam Darcy, Aaron Naughton and Jamarra Ugle-Hagan up forward, and Rory Lobb emerging as a surprise sensation in defence with Liam Jones, the Dogs boast possibly the most complete spine in the game.

The Dogs have consistently played finals under Beveridge’s 11-year reign, but have grossly underperformed in most of them.

Beveridge’s Bulldogs have been eliminated the first week of finals in five of their seven series since 2015, with the only exceptions the drought-breaking 2016 premiership and 2021 grand final years.

They have never made the top four under Beveridge.

Even when the veteran coach led his side to premiership glory in 2016 — then just his second year — they famously did it from seventh on the ladder.

Heading into 2025, many believe the Bulldogs will need to go deep into September to save the coach’s job.

Cornes doesn’t think they’ll get there.

“I wouldn’t have thought so,” he told 7NEWS when asked if Beveridge would see out the year.

Every year on average there are around three teams who drop out of the top eight and three who climb up from the bottom 10.

If the Bulldogs start to look shaky this season, Cornes has his eyes on three teams who could take their place.

“I think Adelaide and Fremantle and Gold Coast — they’re the three for me,” he said.

“In terms of who’s going to fall and who’s going to drop out, well someone has to.

“Can Carlton do it (make finals) with their injuries? Not sure. I think Port Adelaide will probably slide as well.”
