Swans star Tom Papley suddenly linked to bombshell Charlie Curnow trade
Sydney Swans star Tom Papley has been linked to a bombshell Charlie Curnow trade, 7NEWS Melbourne’s Mitch Cleary has revealed.
Six years after Papley attempted to get to Carlton, the exciting forward had his name floated as part of Curnow’s bid to seek a fresh start away from the Blues.
Curnow’s management approached Papley’s camp about whether he would consider being involved in a trade.

Papley pushed for a trade to Carlton at the end of the 2019 season when he remained under contract with the Swans.
But the two clubs failed to come to an agreement, and the prospect was never raised again.
In 2022 Papley committed to Sydney with a new five-year contract that runs until the end of 2028.
The Curnow camp’s play comes after Papley, 29, played just 10 games this year due to injury.
He also hit the scoreboard less often when he got on the park, kicking just seven goals after averaging almost 1.6 goals per game across his career prior to 2025.

Curnow had his exit meeting with Carlton on Thursday and emphasised his desire to explore a fresh start — without making an explicit trade request.
After previously raising the prospect of moving to the Gold Coast Suns, Curnow currently has eyes on Sydney or Geelong.
But the Blues have again declared they will not trade Curnow, who is contracted until 2029 and remains one of the competition’s best key forwards when fit.
He battled a knee injury this year and sought to finish off the season before Carlton sent him in for surgery.
Speculation about a move bubbled away this year until July, when the key forward seemingly shut down the prospect of a trade.
“I don’t really want to make this about me right now, but I’m playing at Carlton next year. There you go. Done,” Curnow said at the time.
Channel 7’s Caroline Wilson last week revealed Curnow was set to “air some grievances” in his exit meeting.
“I can’t predict exactly what is going to happen but my view is that Charlie is still eyeing an exit from the football club,” Wilson said on Channel 7’s The Agenda Setters.
“I know he has stated that he’s not leaving the club but we know he showed interested in going up to the Gold Coast, where I think it would be hard to do a deal and perhaps not the need.
“But my view is that the Sydney Swans are shaping up as a possible home for Charlie Curnow.
“I just think that Charlie Curnow has not been super happy at Carlton. He has some issues with the football club.”
The Swans have previously had success luring Tony Lockett, Barry Hall and Lance Franklin to the club from Victoria.
