Cricket: After 18 wickets fell on the very first day of Test cricket played at Mackay’s Great Barrier Reef Arena, Australia are on top, but Bangladesh are refusing to go away.

Fresh off the most impressive win in their history, the tourists were routed for 64 in the first innings, with Mitchell Starc finishing with figures of 6-12 to be the chief destroyer for Australia.

And while Australia will take a lead of at least 101 into the second innings, the fragility in their batting line-up was exposed again, this time by Bangladesh’s left-armer Shoriful Islam.

Starc on ANOTHER hat-trick!

This Test may be drawing to a rapid conclusion!

For the second time in the game, Mitchell Starc is on a hat-trick, with Mominul Haque leaving his first delivery only for it to hammer into the top of off stump.

First wicket!

Mitchell Starc has got another breakthrough in his second over!

Some extra bounce undid Shadman Islam, who popped a catch Marnus Labuschagne was all too happy to claim at point.

Starc contrast

Mitchell Starc had Shadman Islam caught in the gully from his very first ball of the first innings, but his opening delivery of the second went away for four.

A full toss was comfortably tucked down the ground by Tanzid Hasan.

Third innings begins

Can Mitchell Starc rip through Bangladesh’s batting line-up again?

Neither of their openers Shadman Islam or Tanzid Hasan troubled the scorers in the first innings and they will be hoping for better efforts here!

Aussies all out

Australia’s innings has come to a close, with Josh Hazlewood’s top-edged pull shot caught by Shadman Islam at mid-wicket to give Taijul Islam his first wicket of the game.

Bangladesh’s batters will be confronting Mitchell Starc again in 10 minutes.

Aussies fighting

Australia’s 10th-wicket partnership is now worth 23, and appears to be frustrating Bangladesh.

Najmul Hossain Shanto now has his spinners Mehidy Hasan Miraz and Taijul Islam operating from both ends.

GOAT goes big!

Nathan Lyon is tucking into Taskin Ahmed!

The highlight of an 17-run over which moved the off-spinner along to 27 not out - the third-highest score of the match - was a pull shot which sailed away for six.

Hazlewood away

Josh Hazlewood has shown his top-order teammates how it’s done, punching Shoriful Islam to the boundary off the back foot from the first over he faced.

Any runs for Australia here are invaluable.

Green goes!

Shoriful Islam has picked up his seventh wicket, and it’s the big one of Cam Green!

Umpire Kumar Dharmasena did not put his finger up from a vicious yorker which cannoned into the all-rounder’s toe, but Bangladesh were quick to send the decision upstairs and ball-tracking showed the ball cannoning into the stumps.

That brings an end to a fine 67 from the WA all-rounder.

AUS 9-186, lead by 122

Calmed down

We didn’t see many periods of half an hour of play without a wicket falling yesterday.

But Cam Green (67 not out) and Nathan Lyon (15 not out) have done just that this morning, with the pitch appearing to flatten out.
