Border-Gavaskar Trophy: Recap day three from the Gabba between Australia and India
Australia are looking to press home their advantage on day three against India at the Gabba! Follow the latest news and updates here.
AND ANOTHER!
Again it’s caught Mitch, bowled Mitch!
Gill is the batter this time, gone for one attempting a big drive to one that was full and wide. He steers an edge to a flying Marsh at gully, who takes a RIPPER.
India are 2-6 and in all sorts as Kohli comes to the crease!
OUT! JAISWAL GOES!
Starc has the early breakthrough once again!
After a peach first up that drew the outside edge for four, Starc draws a chip to Marsh in front of square leg and Jaiswal has to go!
It’s a soft one for the man who was so good in the second innings in Perth, but it’s a dream start for Australia. It’s 1-4 as Gill wanders to the wicket.
We’re back... again!
Jaiswal and Rahul stride to the wicket and we’re about to resume. Starc has the ball in hand for Australia.
Another delay
But only a short one, thankfully!
Play will resume at 9.30am (WA time) after another shower caused the square to be covered during the innings break.
ALL OUT 445
That’s it and that’s all!
Carey holes out to deep mid wicket for 70 to give Deep a long-awaited scalp after toiling for almost 30 overs.
It’s a big total for Australia - and they’ve never lost a Test at the Gabba when scoring in excess of 350 in an innings.
Can they make a breakthrough or two before lunch?
LYON GOES
Nathan Lyon is clean bowled! Siraj cleans him up as he attempts an expansive drive.
That makes it 9-445, with that partnership worth a handy 22.
No declaration yet as Josh Hazlewood walks to the wicket!
8-445
Alex Carey produces a brilliant pull shot for four off Deep, and has now rushed his way to 70.
The big question is: How much ‘Happy Hour’ time will the Aussies enjoy before they declare? The decision feels imminent...
We’re back!
The delay ends up only being around 10 minutes, and we resume the action with Akash Deep bowling to an aggressive Alex Carey!
RAIN DELAY
A sprinkle has turned into a shower and we’ve got to go off, unfortunately.
It’s 8-435, with Carey on 64 and Nathan Lyon scoreless off 15 balls.
We await word on when play will resume... but the forecast for today (and the next two days) is far from promising, sadly.
Terrific tail
Australia’s lower order have provided a key cameo here after Travis Head’s dismissal reduced the side to 6-327 yesterday.
They’ve added more than 100 since, with Cummins (20) and Starc (18) both playing their part.
Jasprit Bumrah continues to play a lone hand for the visitors with 6-76, snaring the wicket of Starc caught behind earlier.
