Australia are in command in Galle after Steve Smith and Alex Carey dominated Sri Lanka.

Relive all the action below, with play again set for a 12.30pm (WA time).

50 for Steve Smith

A captain’s knock in tough conditions as Smith sweeps for four to bring up another Test innings.

It’s been a terrific knock so far mixing attack and defence to ensure he’s not tied down on a difficult surface.

50 partnership

And what a way to bring it up and Mendis tosses one up and Carey slog sweeps him high over long on for a maximum.

It’s a funny shot with the sweep almost going straight down the ground but effective.

Drinks - AUS 3/135

Smith goes BANG as he comes down to Jayasuriya and lofts him for six down the ground.

It moves the captain to 48 while Carey has nurdled his way to 23.

Australia trail by 122 and news that Josh Inglis can now bat at the fall of the next wicket as enough time has passed.

Ticking along

Alex Carey has been happy to sweep, paddle sweep and reverse sweep on this pitch and it’s working for him so far.

Even Steve Smith played a reverse which is a rare shot for him as this pair have put on 31 runs.

Still along way to go but it’s crucial Australia avoid losing wickets in a clump which they have done reasonably well with so far.

100 up for Australia

Steve Smith has now gone past Ricky Ponting to have the most runs by an Australian batsman in Asia.

He works with the spin to bring up the team 100. Australia trail by 157.

What now for Marnus?

Another failure for Australia’s No.3 has him under serious pressure especially with Cam Green waiting in the wings.

Alex Carey in

Alex Carey walks out to bat with Josh Inglis still unavailable.

There’s halfa shout as he pads away one to short leg.

Khawaja falls!

He goes back to pull Peiris off the back foot but the ball turns big and keeps low to strike him on the back leg in from of middle stump.

Khawaja reviews with the hope being it’s done too much but Wilson gets this one right with ball-tracking showing it’s hitting leg stump.

50 partnership

Smith drives a single to long-on at the end of the over to bring up the 50 partnership.

Important knock this. Smith comes down to smack a drive but Khawaja can’t get out the way in time as it ricochets for as single.

Smith survives on review

Peiris wraps Smith on the pads and Joel Wilson raises the finger.

Smith reviews immediately thinking this is outside the line and indeed it it by a long way. Might have not even be doing enough to hit the stumps from that wide.

Another Wilson classic that one
