Cameron Green’s return to the red-ball batting crease has ended in a six-ball duck.

The all-rounder is not bowling for Western Australia in their four-day clash with South Australia at the WACA, and his outing as a specialist batter has started with disaster.

Green strode to the crease at 2-153 with opener Cam Bancroft unbeaten in the 80s as the green-tinged deck flattened out on the second day.

But it didn’t help the typically nervous-starting Green.

The 26-year-old has not played a game since WA’s first shield encounter with New South Wales, which ended on October 7 after side soreness ruled him out of the one-day international series against India.

Green left his first delivery before squirting a mistimed drive into the leg side.

But his hard hands got ahead of him against fellow Ashes aspirant Brendan Doggett, the tall all-rounder hitting a catch straight to mid-off who couldn’t believe his luck.

The West Aussie will get another chance in the second innings, and given direct competitor Beau Webster also fell cheaply for Tasmania, Green still has plenty of time.

Bowling will also be the main factor for Green, who has returned to the crease in the nets but won’t bowl against South Australia.

There are plans for him to bowl against Queensland in the next shield fixture beginning at the WACA on November 11.
