Cricket: Australia moved into a strong position after some poor Egnland bowling and worst fielding on day two but left the door open with their own brain fades on day two.

They lead by 44 runs, with Alex Carey and Michael Neser having the chance to bat England out of the match and potentially the series but England will hope they can run through the tail.

92nd Over: AUS 8-427

Stokes replaces Archer. Something of a win for Australia to put him through another wicketless spell.

How did that miss!? Stokes seams one in beats the inside edge but not enough to hit the stumps.

EDGED! But short of Joe Root at slip, and the misfield gives Starc a single. Stokes hangs his head.

Boland right behind the last.

91st Over: AUS 8-426

Carse replaces Atkinson.

No surprises as he’s banging it into the deck.

This is a very unthreatening over with a relatively new ball.

How did that not carry. Starc goes for a swipe and it goes off the toe in the air but somewhow drops short of Archer running in at mid-off who can only laugh.

90th Over: AUS 8-425

Archer to Boland.

Full and straight and he’s right behind it.

WHAT A BALL TO FINISH. Cuts Boland in half but misses the edge and goes off the thigh guard to Smith and Boland survives

89th Over: AUS 8-425

Atkinson to Starc as he defends.

He turns down a single and then ducks under as Atkinson goes short.

Can he keep the strike? No as he drills the straight drive but it’s well feilded at mid-off

87th Over: AUS 8-425

Archer with the chance to have a full over at Boland.

But he gets off strike and off the mark with an aerial flick off the hip that somehow goes between all three fielders in the area.

FOUR! Starc gets over the bounce and cuts one through wide gully for a boundary.

On the legs and turned for a single as Australia’s lead goes into the 90s

86th Over AUS 8-419

Last over before drinks.

Atkinson keeps it outside off to Starc, who’s happy to leave.

Starc turns down another single and then ducks under the short ball.

Full wide and Starc can;t connect and that’s a maiden.

England’s hour taking both set batters with the lead still under 100. Can they wrap it up quickly?

85th Over: AUS 8-419

Runs are hard to come by now but the longer Australia can bat the less time England have to make hay in the sunshine.

Starc is beaten by an Archer wonderball and swings and bounces to beat the edge and the stumps.

Driven off the edge, but point is deep so Starc gets a single.

Boland defends the last

84th Over: AUS 8/418

Edged but short of Smith! Good line and length to draw the edge, but drops well short.

England is happy to give Starc a single, which he takes off the fourth ball.

Boland nearly fends one to short leg.

Great ball. Agnlising in and seams away to beat Boland’s defensive prod.

83rd Over: AUS 8-417

Starc turns down a single to keep strike from Boland.

Tucks a single off the second last ball.

Archer to Boland outside off and left alone

OUT Carey c Smith b Atkinson 63

Short and Carey pulls three forward of square as the lead passes 80.

Starc goes for a drive but is beaten by steep bounce.

Drops a single into the off-side.

GONE. Atkinson throws out the wide one at Carey throws his hands at it and nicks through to Smith

First wicket for Atkinson this series and England will fancy keeping the lead under 100.
