Cricket: The series may be decided, but plenty of pride will be on the line in the fifth and final Test of The Ashes between Australia and England at the SCG.

The tourists were able to put what had been a torrid tour where they surrendered the urn inside 11 match days behind them by claiming their first victory on Australian shores in 15 years in a fast-forward Boxing Day Test.

Australia’s hopes of a 5-0 whitewash were swept away with the loss, but Steve Smith’s side will be looking to ensure England are sent home with a bitter taste in their mouths.

Stay across the latest Ashes action as Australia and England resume their battle in Sydney.

That’s all folks!

Thanks for joining us over the past two months.

4-1 is a fitting result for Australia even if they didn’t really solve any questions over their inconsistent batting line-up.

England will rue their moments of madness as they played some truly childish cricket, which meant it wasn’t until this final Test that we got some true grit from both sides.

Starc deserving player of the series. Head immense.

Until we meet again goodbye for now!

More on Starc’s greatness

Stokes reflects on a disappointing series

“We should have got 100 more and we allowed Australia to get 100 too many in the first innings,” he said.

“Australia are an incredible team. They had individuals who stood up. Full credit to them. But we know we could have done better.

“Time for reflection is not right now. We’ve got a long time away to reflect on it. Come June when we next play, hopefully we can put the wrongs right. That knock from Beth was simply incredible.

“Josh Tongue keeps going from strength to strength. He keeps impressing. We’ve got some unbelievable talent.”

Mitchell Starc wins the Compton-Miller Medal

It was a two-horse race between himself and Head but when the series was alive Mitch Starc was just incredible.

He’s typically humble in his acceptance speech.

“It feels like it’s going ok. The body is holding together and it’s a great group to be apart of. I’m a little bit tired,” he says

“Between Scotty, Nes and I we’ve been told we’re not on the younger side of things but we’ve worked hard as a group.

:I’m glad I got a few runs at the start of the series because I didn’t at the end. The partnership in Brisbane with Scotty was a big one for us.”

31 wickets at 19 along with two 50s is hard to argue against.

Travis Head is man of the match

Four centuries in this match, but his 160 off 163 balls gives him the nod.

“It’s special. I’ve always found it tough to bat here. Nice to face the new ball and contribute. I probably hold the couple of hundreds in the first three Tests when everything was on the line. Nice to finish the series well.”

AUSTRALIA WIN BY FIVE WICKETS

All over Australia seal a dominant 4-1 series win as Carey drives Jacks past cover.

It was a tense chase in the end but it will do Green’s confidence a world of good to be there at the end.

Credit to England who fought hard but how they will rue their brainfades with the bat yesterday.

31st Over - AUS 5-147

Green drop and runs a single.

Carey works wide of short leg and he sets off before being turned back by Green.

Short and Carey pulls into the gap for one.

FOUR! Short with a hint of width and Green punches through backward point. Seven more runs needed.

FOURE MORE! Short and Green rides the bounce to steer another boundary.

30th Over - AUS 5-147

Jacks replaces Root.

Green defends off the front foot.

Inside edge goes low past the short leg.

Green advances down and they think about a run but wisely go back.

BYES! Spins and bounces sharply as Green does well to leave in the end as it beats everyone and goes for three byes.

29th Over - AUS 5-144

Carse continues to Green and is far too short to give up a wide. Less than 20 required now.

Nearly more run-out drama!

Green scampers through for a quick single. Carse’s throw misses and then there’s confusion on the overthrow with a yes, then no, as Green slips over mid-pitch but makes it back.

Carey drop and runs another single.

Green gets is own into the legside.

28th Over - AUS 5-140

Carey punches a single.

Green gets one to point. 20 to win and that’s drinks.
