Richardson is back
10th Over: ENG 4-38
Overpitched and Stokes caresses three through the covers.
Carey is up to the stumps with Brook on strike.
He edges two past a diving Green at gully.
Appeal for a stumping as Brook lifts his foot, but he gets it back down just in time.
Too straight and Brook flicks off the pads and a misfield from Starc gives him three.
9th Over: ENG 4-30
Brook’s gonna Bazball his way out!
Charges down and swipes Starc for six over cover wonder what captain Stokes must be thinking at the other end.
Down again and he hacks three through midwicket.
CLOSE! Stokes is nearly gone first ball by one that shapes away.
FOUR! Brook backs away and scoop pulls Starc fine for another boudnary.
Think this sums it up well.
ROOT’S GONE! England in tatters!
More carnage!
It’s another lovely ball from Neser angling into off-stump before seaming away to take the edge.
Carey dives forward to take the catch and there’s no doubt on the replay.
Root’s gone for a duck!
7th Over: ENG 3-15
Brook drives a single out to point.
Root leaves and blocks the rest of Starc’s over
6th Over: ENG 3-14
FOUR! Brook down the track and he flashes it just wide of Cam Green diving at gully.
Neser beats Root’s outside edge with one that jags sharply.
Root is far more sensible blocking out the over
5th Over: ENG 3-8
What the?! Three down inside five overs and Brook dances down to Starc and goes to smash him over point by misses. Bazball isn’t dead yet apparently.
WICKET Crawley ct Smith b Starc
It’s chaos at the MCG as England are in disarray.
Starc angling across Crawley and he just sends a catch straight to Steve Smith at second slip.
England are 3-8!
WICKET Bethell LBW Neser 1
Big shout for LBW, but it’s probably doing too much and is a bit high.
GONE TWO BALLS LATER! Perfect delivery, shaping away from Bethell as he edges behind Carey.
Stuck on the crease and would have been bowled top off if it didn’t catch the edge.
There was some confusion as umpire Dharmesena didn’t raise his finger initially, but there was no doubt.
Perfect start for Australia.
WICKET Duckett ct Neser b Starc 2
He’s had to wait to the second over this time but Starc strikes as Duckett just spoons one to Neser at mid-on.
He went to turn it into the legside, but it held up to take the leading edge, and it’s a soft dismissal.
Tough week for Duckett and it’s the new No.3 Jacob Bethell on Ashes debut walking out in the third over.
2nd Over: ENG 0-4
Interesting, it’s Neser with the new ball over Richardson.
Oof! On the money as Crawley drives and misses.
Softer hands this time and he gets a single to point.
Duckett’s been in the headlines for the wrong reasons over the past couple of days but he gets off the mark with a push through the covers.
