Twenty20 World Cup: Australia face Scotland in final group stage game to decide England’s super-eight fate
Australia did it the hard way, but survived an almighty scare from Scotland to record a narrow win and save England from elimination at the T20 World Cup.
Recap the action in our blog below.
... But then he goes!
Stoinis can’t close things out!
He succumbs to the final ball of Mark Watt’s spell, bowled by a full and straight one. Missed the reverse sweep.
The Aussies are now 5 down, needing 26 from 18. Wade joins David in the middle
Stoinis the saviour
Marcus Stoinis was Player of the Match in Australia’s opener, and he’s about to get his second prize here you’d think - much to England’s delight.
He goes down the ground and then reverse sweep for consecutive boundaries. 26 off 19 needed...
36 needed off 24 balls
Stoinis ends the over with a boundary, bringing the total for the over to 24.
Despite the Head wicket, that is a defining over in the tournament you’d suggest.
HEAD DEPARTS
Head goes 6, 6, 6 and then out!
He’s helped drag the Aussies back in front, but there could be some more twists and turns yet as he departs going looking for a fourth straight maximum at long off.
It’s Tim David time. Equation: 41 needed off 26 balls
... And now Head joins in!
Head blasts one over deep square leg to make a contribution... and then pumps Sharif over long on for another maximum the very next ball!
47 needed off 28, Aussies perhaps with their noses back in front...
STOINIS BEAST MODE
Stoinis’ past five balls: 6-4-4-4-4
He’s up to 47, and Australia now back in business. 61 needed from 32
Stoin puts the foot down
Stoinis roars to life!
He goes 6-6-4 to close the Leask over with a combination of power and touch.
Required rate 11.83 with six overs to play.
The 50 partnership is also up
After 12 overs - Aus 3-92
How much do the Aussies want it?
The chase is creeping away from them a fraction here.
Required rate up to 12.71, with seven overs left. Not a significant amount of aggression in the past few overs
After 11 overs - Aus 3-86. 95 needed from 48 balls
The required rate is now almost at 12. And for the first time all day, Scotland are now the bookmakers’ favourites to get the win.
Head is 46 off 39... can he launch and save England’s blushes?
After 11 overs - Australia 3-82
How are the nerves, England fans?
Sharif has been great for his 1-10 off two overs. Looks stifling
