Tottenham’s pursuit of a Champions League place has been dented after a 1-1 draw with West Ham United at London Stadium.

Brennan Johnson tapped in Timo Werner’s cross from close range on Wednesday (AEDT) to put Spurs ahead inside five minutes only for Kurt Zouma to level in the 19th with a header from Jarrod Bowen’s corner.

Tottenham are now two points behind fourth-placed Aston Villa, who head to champions Manchester City on Thursday.

“I thought for the most part we controlled the game pretty well,” Spurs boss Ange Postecoglou said.

“They are a big strong team. They sit deep and make it difficult for you.

“We conceded from a set-piece but the rest of the set-pieces we coped with really well. In the front third we lacked a bit of clarity of thought.

“It is all part of the development. That is why we have coaches, why we develop a system. We are not the finished article and we know that.

“There was enough there tonight for me to say that it is a team still heading in the right direction.”

Earlier, Nottingham Forest gave their survival hopes a boost by beating Fulham 3-1 at the City Ground - their first win in six top-flight matches.

Callum Hudson-Odoi opened the scoring in the ninth minute before Chris Wood, with his eighth goal in nine league games, doubled their advantage 10 minutes later and Morgan Gibbs-White added a third in first-half added time.

Tosin Adarabioyo pulled a goal back for Fulham but Forest edged three points clear of third-bottom Luton Town.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin ended his goal drought with an 88th-minute penalty as Everton snatched a 1-1 draw against Newcastle United at St James’ Park.

Alexander Isak struck for the Magpies after 15 minutes, claiming his 19th of the season.

Everton salvaged a point as Calvert-Lewin converted from the spot after Ashley Young was fouled - the striker’s first goal in 24 games dating back to October.

The Toffees move four points above the relegation zone despite extending their winless league run to 13 matches.

Burnley’s bid to avoid the drop was dealt a blow after being held 1-1 by Wolverhampton at Turf Moor.

The Clarets are now unbeaten in four games but six points adrift of Forest in 17th.

At Bournemouth, substitute Justin Kluivert bagged a late winner as the hosts beat Crystal Palace 1-0 to claim a third straight win and fourth in five matches.

The result moves the Cherries up to 11th while Palace stay 14th.
