Brazil’s wait for World Cup success has been extended after the five-time champions were stunned by unlikely heroes Norway in the Round of 16 at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey.

The inspired Vikings will now play in their first ever quarter-final — against Mexico or England in Miami — in their first appearance at a World Cup since 1998.
Norway have succeeded here with little experience on the international stage, having not even qualified for the Euros since 2000.
In stirring scenes after the final whistle Haaland was on the drums as he led the Norwegian team and their fans in a row, their newest tradition at the tournament.
The 25-year-old has now scored in 14 straight international fixtures and is up to seven goals for the tournament, level with Lionel Messi and Kylian Mbappe.
Brazil, meanwhile, have been left to rue their worst result since 1990, the last time they failed to make the quarter-finals.
Expectations are always high for the Selecao but they have again extended their long losing streak in knockout matches against European opposition.
Bruno Guimaraes had a penalty saved in the 14th minute after his stutter-step attempt was comfortably covered by Norway’s star goalkeeper Orjan Nyland.
Guimaraes, who surprisingly stepped up ahead of Vinicius Junior, is the first Brazil player to miss a penalty at a World Cup since Zico in 1986.
There were plenty of other missed opportunities, including Casemiro missing Neymar on a crossing attempt on what could have levelled the scores.
