Melbourne Cup Recap: Knight’s Choice winner in stunning photo finish at Flemington

It’s the race that stops a nation!

Stay across all the news and colour around today’s Melbourne Cup, after Knight’s Choice took out the race in spectacular fashion.

Fashions on the field

A host of celebrities stepped out in colourful spring-themed outfits for the big racing day for a chance to show off stylish fashion statements on a national stage.

Here’s who has turned heads so far at Flemington.

Race 6

WHAT A FINISH.

Luke Nolen and Arran Bay juuuust holds off a late surge to win by a nose ahead of Damien Lane’s Unspoken.

Mark Zahra’s aboard pre-race favourite Apuila rounds out the top three.

Nolen what be riding in the Cup while Lane will ride Chris Waller’s Kovalica.

We’re now less than an hour away from the main event!

Race 5

It looked like it was going to be a blanket finish but Billy Egan burst away in the final 50m on rank $61 outsider Garachico to take the win.

Continuing the theme of winners so far he does not have a ride in the Cup.

Jamie Kah took favourite Newfoundland to second with Whisky on the Hill rounding out the podium.

Kah will be riding Okita Soushi, currently at $17, in the Cup later today,

More star power arrives

The battle for best dressed at the Cup can be just a hard as the racing on the track as more celebrities arrive at Flemington.

Among them is the ex-fiance of the late great Shane Warne Elizabeth Hurley and her son Damian while para swimmer Alexa Leary is the latest athlete to arrive at the track.

Race 4

Ben Melham takes out race four aboard Manoloa Bling ahead of Hedonist and Overfull.

Melham does not have a ride for the Cup later this afternoon.

The pre-race favourite Winnasedge could only manage fourth.

WA’s Mark Zahra arrives

He’s won the past two Melbourne Cups but will be aboard $23 outsider Circle of Fire for the main feature.

Should he beat the odds Zahra will become just the second jockey to win three straight Cups.

For those wondering the only other man to achieve that feat is Glen Boss and his legendary pairing with Makybe Diva.

Race 3

The $2.40 favourite Cloudland takes out race three and that gives James McDonald two straight wins at Flemington in another sign that he should have been given a ride in the main feature later today.

Riot and Rose and Chattahoochee complete the top three meaning the top three favourites finish one, two and three.
