Race 2

Flemington’s Race 2 is run and won by James McDonald on the $4.50 favourite Opening Address.

McDonald is arguably the best jockey in Australia, but has unfortunately been left without a ride in the Melbourne Cup amid Via Sistina’s absence.

Big names in the house

As usual, there’s no shortage of prominent faces who are among those to have descended on Flemington for today’s action.

Olympic swimming great Ariarne Titmus and footy legends Leigh Matthews and Nicky Winmar are among the revellers trackside.

Racing underway at Flemington

We’ve just seen the first event on the 10-race card at Flemington (the Melbourne Cup is race 7).

Race 1 is taken out by Tycoon Star, which gives jockey Michael Dee a winning start to the day.

Dee’s Melbourne Cup ride is the $41 outsider Sharp ‘N’ Smart, for those who like to tap into winning form early in the day!
