Only Latrell Mitchell can do this.

With the game on the line, scores level and the clock running out, the Souths superstar nailed a monster two-point field goal from just inside the halfway line to bury the Broncos and complete a remarkable comeback victory.

The Rabbits rallied from a 14-0 halftime scoreline to win 22-14 over a stunned Brisbane outfit at a wet Accord Stadium.

And to add insult to injury Mitchell - on his return from suspension - scored a try on the siren after diving over from dummy half right on the try line as the despondent Broncos watched on defeated.

“I don’t think we thought it was going over there but all of a sudden we got excited,” said Souths coach Wayne Bennett.

“He just does what Latrell can do. That’s what makes him such a special player.”

In a horror finish for Brisbane, Broncos and Maroons Origin star Ben Hunt hobbled off the field with a hamstring injury in the final 15 minutes.

His injury could end Ezra Mam’s exile in a matter of days.

Broncos coach Michael Maguire previously refused to put a timeline on Mam’s return following his drug-driving ban.

But the coach may have little choice but to recall the five-eighth for next week’s clash against St George Illawarra given his replacement’s injury.

Maguire was ropeable with the Broncos at full-time, questioning whether they had the desire to play complete performances.

“Just the want to do it for 80 minutes,” he said.

“We’re chasing 80-minute games every week. We’ve seen signs but we’ve also seen the other.

“As a team they’ve got to learn how to do that or we’ll keep bumbling the same way we have been. It’s not good enough. Simple as that.”

The Broncos got off to a fast start to lead 14-0 at halftime on the back of tries from Jordan Riki and Deine Mariner.

Mariner scored a spectacular four-pointer, diving into the corner to plant the ball within centimetres of the sideline.

Souths came to life after the main break with Siliva Havili scoring two minutes into the second half. Isaiah Tass scored nine minutes later to see the Rabbits pull within two points to trail 14-12.

Massive Bronco prop Xavier Willison caught Lachlan Hubner high right in front of the posts with 10 minutes to go. Mitchell slotted the penalty goal to draw scores level at 14-14.

Souths had a golden opportunity to score a try or nail a close-range field goal minutes later, but Tallis Duncan coughed up a long pass that bounced off his chest.

With less than two minutes to go Mitchell then calmly drilled his 49-metre field goal to break Broncos’ hearts.

The win breathes new life into a South Sydney campaign decimated by injuries, with the Rabbitohs pushed into the bottom four by a quartet of consecutive losses.

Souths had conceded at least 24 points in each of those losses but had renewed defensive vigour on Friday night.

A lot of that was down to Mitchell, who pulled off two try-saving one-on-one tackles in the backfield.

He first stopped a rampaging Payne Haas on the prop’s 40-metre tear down the left side.

Mitchell then dragged Mariner into touch when the winger looked to make it a two-score game in the second half.
