Paris 2024 Olympics RECAP: Matt Wearn, Nina Kennedy and Peter Bol highlight day 12
Australia is on course for its best-ever Olympics, can they keep up their golden run on day 12 while the Opals and Sharks face knock-out quarter-finals?
WA’s Minjee Lee and Hannah Green will also be in action as the women’s gold get underway while our tack cyclists will go for gold in the men’s team pursuit after their world-record effort.
Recap all the action as it happened below.
Key Events
Women’s K1 500m kayak sprints
Alyce Wood is up in what will be her final Olympics.
She’s third at the halfway mark behind China and Hungary.
But in the final 100m she passes the tiring Chinese competitor and holds off a fast-finishing Sweden to secure automatic qualification to the semifinal.
Terrific paddle!
Final leg
Montag takes the handover 20 seconds off third and will need a big final push to try and get back into the medals.
After her massive effort in the individual has she got enough in the tank to haul Australia back in this?
Tee off times
Minjee Lee and Hannah Green will both tee of today as the women’s action gets underway.
Green is considered the stronger medal chance of the two but both will want a good start to stay in the mix on day one.
Minjee’s brother Min Woo shot six-over in his first round to basically end his Paris hopes before they began despite a strong comeback over the last three rounds.
Green will tee off at 3:44pm
Lee will tee off at 5:44pm AWST.
Mixed marathon walk underway
In the early event of the day the mixed marathon walk is currently underway with the Australian pairing of Rhydian Cowley and Jemima Montag currently in fourth.
This is the first time this event is being run at the Olympics so is something of an unknown.
Montag you may remember took bronze in the women’s walk and will anchor the final leg with Cowley currently 30 seconds off the leaders from Ecuador and Spain.
