The NFL Super Bowl halftime extravaganza looks set to lure one of the world’s biggest singing sensations out of a self-imposed hiatus, as rumours erupt that Adele is the front-runner for the coveted gig.

With an audience of over 125 million in the US alone, the halftime show entertainment lineup attracts worldwide speculation every year, and the exposure to a global market via America’s biggest sporting event is a hard pitch to turn down.

The Hello songstress, who is on a break from performing and recording since her wildly successful residency at Caesar’s Palace in Las Vegas, has emerged as the frontrunner to perform at Levi’s Stadium for Super Bowl LX in California next February.

Adele, 37, turned down the opportunity to headline the Super Bowl entertainment 10 years ago after a big-money offer from the NFL in 2016.

“I’m not doing the Super Bowl. Come on, that show is not really about music, and I don’t dance or anything like that,” the Londoner said at the time

“But they were very kind, and they did ask me, but I did say no.”

After attending the 2024 instalment to witness the Kansas City Chiefs go back-to-back against the San Francisco 49ers, Adele said she was only there to see another global singing star perform at halftime.

“Last year I went, obviously I didn’t go for the football at all. I went to watch Rihanna,” she said after attending the game with her sports agent fiancé, Rich Paul.

The 16-time Grammy Award winner has not officially signed on and could be edged out by other heavyweight artists, including Taylor Swift, Miley Cyrus, Justin Bieber and rock groups Metallica or Green Day.

A tell-all autobiography about the singer’s rise to stardom is set to be released in 2026, was confirmed by The Sun, which revealed Adele has signed a lucrative book deal.

The Super Bowl performance would be a perfect kick-start to a book tour and the potential release of new music ahead of a rumoured world tour.

Adele has sold more than 120 million records worldwide, with 11 Top Ten songs, including three No.1 singles, Someone Like You, Hello and Easy On Me.

“Publishers have been desperate to sign Adele to tell her story, but she’s always said no,” a source told The Sun.

“Finally she is ready and it will be Adele in her own words — beyond the headlines. As well as taking in her rise to fame in music, it will touch on her upbringing and her personal life.”

The singer’s last world tour ended early in 2017 due to vocal issue, before she spoke about the difficulties of life on the road.

“I’d still like to make records, but I’d be fine if I never heard [the applause] again.

“I’m on tour simply to see everyone who’s been so supportive.

“I don’t care about money. I’m British, and we don’t have that thing of having to earn more money all the time.”

Adele later agreed to the record-breaking Las Vegas residency at Caesars Palace rumoured to be worth upward of $US200 million.
