Soccer: The Matildas are back in action in Perth, with the hosts of the Women’s Asian Cup set to open the tournament against the Philippines at Optus Stadium.

After a barnstorming run to a fourth-placed finish at the 2023 Women’s World Cup, one of the country’s most beloved sporting teams will be hoping to go two wins better and hoist the Asian Cup for the first time since 2010.

WA product and the side’s superstar captain Sam Kerr declared herself “85 per cent” fit yesterday and will be hoping to find the back of the net for the national side for the first time in more than two years.

Kerr is in!

Sam Kerr has been named to start in her home city and is set to partner Caitlin Foord and Hayley Raso up front.

But goalkeeper Mackenzie Arnold, who has been a limited participant at training in recent days, has not been given a start, instead figuring amongst the substitutes.

Chloe Lincoln will start between the sticks, while star midfielder Kyra Cooney-Cross is not in the squad.
