Elizaveta ‘Liza’ Gishchina: Mum taking selfie plunges to her death moments after successful bungee jump

A mother of two has fallen nearly 90m to her death just moments after successfully completing a bungee jump, tragically because she was trying to take a selfie to commemorate her achievement.
Elizaveta “Liza” Gishchina decided to do the adrenaline-inducing bungee jump to celebrate her 45th birthday, with the daring act caught on video.
She was seen in the footage laughing and shouting “Let’s go” before leaping headfirst from a platform in Pavlovsk, near St Petersburg in Russia.

Ms Gishchina was not injured in the jump, but the day took a tragic turn when she decided to re-climb the platform to take a selfie as a keepsake, The Sun reports.
Her horrified son Nikita, 23, watched as Ms Gishchina then slipped and fell to her death at the abandoned boiler tower which is now used for extreme sports.
“Without safety ropes, she climbed back up, slipped and fell down”, Russian media TV Zvezda reported.

The company which runs the bungee site, 23block, confirmed Ms Gishchina death.
“In tragic circumstances, experienced jumper and mother-of-two Liza has passed away”, a spokesperson wrote.
“Elizaveta Gushchina, along with her son Nikita, was a member of our sports team. Now the whole team is mourning her loss, this is a very big tragedy for us.”
Russian prosecutors are investigating the death.
“They will ascertain whether the organisers of the attraction complied with the law when providing services,” a spokesperson said.
The tragedy comes just weeks after another thrill-seeker, Icon Aircraft founder Kirk Hawkins died in a harrowing wingsuit accident.
The 58-year-old former US Air Force pilot leapt from a helicopter near the summit of Eiger, a 13,000-foot peak in the Bernese Alps, on August 19.
He veered off course and struck a strand of trees west of Schüssellouwinegraben, dying on impact with the ground.
