“As established so far, these items were found during earthworks on the property,” prosecutor Krzysztof Ciechanowski said.
“Among the waste there was also a human fetus and other remains that could constitute human fetuses in an early stage of development or their fragments.”
Medical examiners have confirmed that the fetuses are human.
Other Polish outlets have reported it could be between 50 and 100 fetal remains found on the property.
Medical waste found alongside the bodies included paraffin blocks used by pathologists and microscope slides.
The suspect reportedly told investigators that she took the fetuses from a hospital during the COVID-19 pandemic to use for medical experiments.
Radio Rzeszów reported that the woman was charged with desecrating a human corpse and abandoning hazardous waste in a place not designated for storage or disposal.
She will remain in custody until September 10.
The maximum sentence for the charges is 12 years in prison.
It is not yet clear if the pathologist acted alone or alongside others.
Investigators suspect there may be more than one property involved and they are working to determine if there are other burial sites.
