Meghan Markle: Vogue cover clash behind Duchess’ rift with Edward Enninful as her impossible demands are aired

The rumoured rift between Meghan Markle and the former British Vogue editor, Edward Enninful, continues to deepen.
The Duchess of Sussex gave the fashion expert an impossible list of demands, and even attempted to get US Vogue Editor, Anna Wintour, to run her on the cover of the renowned magazine, an insider revealed to Page Six.
According to a recent report by The Daily Mail, Markle and Enninful had planned a British Vogue feature in September 2022 that would showcase her and Prince Harry’s charitable work.

Markle reportedly wanted to appear on the cover of the magazine, however Enninful already had a cover star booked, which triggered Markle to scrap the feature entirely.
According to an insider, Markle’s team had “high expectations and were expecting she might get a print cover or at least a digital cover out of it.”
As Enninful already had a magazine cover locked in for that month — Linda Evangelista — he was not in a position to meet the demands from Markle’s team.
“He didn’t think it was appropriate to give her the cover,” the source explained.
It is believed that Markle’s team demanded control over the photographer, videographer, stylists, and editors, but Enninful would not agree to such terms — which eventually led to a falling out with the Duchess.
“Edward was furious to have lost the project,” a source told The Daily Mail.
“The whole process became very difficult. Edward could only promise her a big showy feature inside the magazine and online — but she turned it down,” they added.
Another source revealed to Page Six that Markle requested a “global cover”, appearing on the covers of US and British Vogue simultaneously.
It is extremely rare for anyone, even for the most famous celebrities, to occupy both editions at the same time. The only exception has been Adele, who appeared on both US and UK covers in November 2021.
Markle reportedly arranged a call with Wintour to pitch the idea, however, US Vogue already had tennis legend Serena Williams locked in to appear on the September cover.
Despite the claims that Markle and Enninful are no longer on speaking terms, The Daily Mail has also heard that Markle and Enninful have been in touch again recently, exchanging birthday wishes and flowers.
Enninful announced in March 2024 he was retiring from his position as Editor-in-Chief at British Vogue.
