Milwaukee shooting: One dead after police kill a man with a knife near Republican National Conference
Security surrounding the US Republican National Conference was on heightened alert after a man was shot dead by police near the convention venue in Milwaukee.
Officers reportedly shot and killed the man near 14th and Vliet streets which is walking distance from the Fiserv Forum building.
Police from 63 departments in 24 states and Washington, D.C., along with 44 Wisconsin agencies are in Milwaukee this week for the Republican National Convention, following the attempted assassination of Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump last weekend.

The man brandishing the knife was then allegedly fired on by numerous officers although this has not yet been confirmed by police.
“The incident took place in the outer perimeter of the RNC, within the operational zone to which our officers were assigned,” the Columbus Police Department said in a statement.
A large police presence plus Secret Service agents reportedly attended the scene.
After the incident occurred the police perimeter appears to have been pushed out a further three street blocks from the convention centre.
The Milwaukee Area Investigative Team is investigating the shooting on behalf of the police.
