Meghan Markle and Prince Harry have stepped out for a low-key pub lunch in their first public outing together in the UK since relocating their family back to Britain.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex were spotted holding hands as they arrived at The Falkland Arms in the Cotswolds on Thursday, with photos of their quiet lunch date emerging the following day.

The couple kept things casual for the outing, with Meghan wearing a black sweater and dark pants teamed with white sneakers and sunglasses.

Prince Harry opted for jeans, a jacket and sunglasses, finishing his outfit with a Santa Barbara Fire Department baseball cap in a subtle nod to the California home the Sussexes left behind.

The sighting marks the first time Prince Harry and Meghan have been pictured out together in Britain since returning to the UK for an extended stay with Prince Archie, 7, and Princess Lilibet, 5, in August.

The family had been based in Meghan’s home state of California since 2020 after the couple stepped away from their roles as working royals.

Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet have since started school in the UK as the family adjusts to their new life.

And their latest outing appeared to be about as ordinary as it gets.

According to The Sun, Meghan tucked into gluten-free beer-battered haddock and chips served with mushy peas and tartar sauce.

Prince Harry went for classic pub fare, ordering chicken, ham and leek pie alongside seasonal greens, mashed potatoes and gravy.

Despite having two of the world’s most recognisable royals sitting down for lunch, staff said the Sussexes received no special treatment.

“Everyone here gets the royal treatment — it doesn’t matter who you are. We’re lucky to get lots of different people visiting us, and everyone is treated like a local. When they visited, Harry and Meghan just acted like locals.”

The relaxed outing comes after a considerably busier few weeks for Prince Harry, who has made several public appearances since returning to England.

He attended a black-tie event supporting Ukraine on Wednesday and has also appeared at the WellChild Awards and the Invictus Spirit Gala Dinner and Awards.

Prince Harry has even squeezed in a quick return to the United States, travelling to New York City for appearances at the Clinton Global Initiative annual meeting, Skift Global Forum and the National Geographic and De Beers Okavango Eternal event.

Meghan, meanwhile, has largely remained away from the public spotlight as the couple settles Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet into their new surroundings.

Insiders previously said the Duchess was concentrating on helping the children adjust following the family’s move.

That has not meant putting work completely on hold.

Her lifestyle brand As ever continued its rollout this week, launching an Advent calendar in partnership with chocolate company Compartés.

Meghan has also offered followers a rare look at how the Sussex family has been spending its first weeks back in Britain.

A video posted to her Instagram account on September 13 showed Meghan and Prince Harry walking together along a woodland path and splashing through puddles.

Brief glimpses of Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet were also included, showing the children fishing at a pond and chasing after a herd of animals.
