A young Tennessee woman who lost both her legs in a freak boating incident two weeks ago is still unaware of the devastating amputations.

Hannah Smith, 22, had just began her trip in the Bahamas with her best friend when she fell off a pontoon boat while it was docking.

Ms Smith was pulled into the propeller which partially severed both her legs.

Two passengers sprung into action and pulled Ms Smith out of the water before applying pressure to her legs.

She was then airlifted to hospital for emergency surgeries and has been under heavy sedation ever since.

Ms Smith’s parents Tracy and Marvin told The Mirror that they have not yet been able to discuss the accident with their daughter.

“With the sedations, medications, the trauma, everything, there were also hallucinations, which they tell us is part of coming off sedation,” Tracy said.

“So we have not asked her anything related to (the accident).”

Marvin told the outlet that his daughter is still in intensive care but is conscious when she’s not in surgery.

“She definitely knows we’re there supporting her. It means the world to her. She was so happy when she regained consciousness that we were all here,” Marvin said.

Ms Smith’s parents are also trying to find the two strangers that rescued her from the water.

“It was a nurse and a firefighter,” Tracy told the outlet.

“They didn’t know each other, but they were straight in there, focusing on applying pressure.

“I just want to thank them. I would love to be able to talk to them, because they allowed Hannah to make it to the hospital.”

A GoFundMe created to help the family with the huge medical costs has raised more than $45,000 USD.
