A woman was given the shock of a lifetime after she spontaneously entered labour while at work, after not knowing she was pregnant in the first place.

Amethyst Blumberg was going about her day at a FedEx facility in Grimes, Iowa, on January 26 when she was hit with an unexpected delivery.

She told KCCI that toward the end of her shift at 8am she felt overcome with the need to use the restroom.

“After that, I couldn’t even get off the toilet,” Ms Blumberg said.

She rushed to the bathroom door and yelled out for help.

Paramedics were called, but as they were sent out, Ms Blumberg’s child was already close to being born.

“I get up, and I feel his head,” she told the outlet.”

Medics arrived at the facility at 8.29am, and the baby boy was delivered just four minutes later at 8.33am.

He was named Onyx King Easterlie and weighed just over 3kg. Ms Blumberg and her son were taken to hospital, where both were declared healthy.

This wasn’t Ms Blumberg’s first pregnancy. She explained that with her first child, she experienced clear symptoms, but with Onyx, she didn’t have any.

“With my first one, I had all the symptoms. With this one, I had nothing at all,” she said.

She also claimed that during the pregnancy, she had actually been losing weight at work.

“The only thing I felt was when my back started hurting from back labour. And when he was descending, I felt him move,” she said.

“He’s perfect. Our FedEx baby.”

Nick Pearson, an attending paramedic, said their team’s focus was not on the surprise aspect of the birth.

“I’ve seen a lot of things in my field, so I don’t get too surprised anymore,” he said.

“I’m just very happy that she was healthy and the baby was healthy.”
