The incident comes months after Spears was linked to another driving controversy.
In October 2025, a video surfaced showing the Toxic singer leaving a restaurant in Thousand Oaks, before getting behind the wheel of a black BMW.
Several people allegedly attempted to stop her from driving.
One eyewitness claimed Spears “nearly ran over her friend while pulling out” of the restaurant car park.
The footage also allegedly showed the singer swerving between lanes, tailgating another vehicle and briefly driving in a bike lane on her way home.
‘Incredibly emotional’ during arrest
According to reports, Spears was visibly distressed while being processed by police.
The singer was “crying and very tearful” during the booking process.
“She was incredibly emotional,” a source told Page Six. “It’s been a very hard couple of months.”
The same source said Spears was struggling with the fallout from the arrest.

“She felt ashamed and embarrassed,” the insider said, adding she is “very sorry” about what happened.
“She doesn’t want to let anyone down, including her fans,” the source said. “The last thing she wants is to be judged publicly all over again.”
A representative for Spears said, “This was an unfortunate incident that is completely inexcusable”.
They continued by saying, “Britney is going to take the right steps and comply with the law and hopefully this can be the first step in long overdue change that needs to occur in Britney’s life. Hopefully, she can get the help and support she needs during this difficult time.
“Her boys are going to be spending time with her. Her loved ones are going to come up with an overdue needed plan to set her up for success for well being.”
Following the arrest, Spears also removed her Instagram profile, after a series of recent posts had already sparked concern among some followers.

In the days leading up to the arrest, the singer shared a number of unusual videos showing her dancing energetically, pulling exaggerated facial expressions and flashing the camera.
Representatives for Spears have not publicly commented on the arrest.
Long history of driving scrutiny
Spears’ driving has attracted public attention before.
In 2006, the singer faced intense criticism after she was photographed driving with her infant son Sean Preston sitting on her lap instead of in a car seat.
She later apologised for the incident, describing it as a “mistake” made while trying to escape aggressive paparazzi.

A year later, Spears was charged with hit-and-run and driving without a valid licence, though the case was later dismissed after she reached a settlement with the vehicle owner.
More recently, in 2023, Spears was pulled over and issued violations for not having a valid driver’s licence in her possession and failing to provide proof of insurance.
Spears is set to appear in court on May 4.
