Vancouver: Multiple fatalities after driver ploughs through crowd at Lapu Lapu Day Block Party

Multiple people have been killed after a car ploughed through a busy street festival in Vancouver, Canada.
The incident occurred around 8pm on Saturday (local time) on E. 41st Avenue and Fraser where the Lapu Lapu Day Block Party was taking place.
The street party was attended by a large around of Filipino’s who were celebrating Lapu Lapu Day, a holiday to celebrate Filipino heritage.

Vancouver Police issued a statement in the minutes after the incident, confirming there had been multiple fatalities and that a driver was in custody.

“A number of people have been killed and multiple others are injured after a driver drove into a crowd at a street festival at E. 41st Avenue and Fraser shortly after 8pm tonight,” Vancouver Police wrote on X.
“The driver is in custody. We will provide more information as the investigation unfolds.”
Horrific video of the shocking incident quickly emerged on social media, showing bodies lying on the asphalt, while emergency crews raced to attend to those still alive.
One video, which has not yet been verified, showed a crowd of people yelling at a person who was being guarded by police.
Vancouver Mayor Ken Sim said: “I am shocked and deeply saddened by the horrific incident at today’s Lapu Lapu Day event.”
“We will work to provide more information as soon as we can.
“Our thoughts are with all those affected and with Vancouver’s Filipino community during this incredibly difficult time.”
