Bing Wei: Desperate search for man missing near Thredbo as temperatures freeze

A frantic search is underway in freezing conditions near Thredbo for a 61-year-old man who went missing on Saturday.

Police are calling for public assistance to help locate Bing Wei, who was last in contact at around 2:30 pm yesterday.

Mr Wei, who is from the ACT, was reported missing after he failed to return home and could not be reached.

After authorities started investigations, Mr Wei’s car was located but he was not with it.

Police and his family hold grave concerns for his safety due to the harsh weather conditions in the area.

Thredbo endured freezing temperatures on Saturday night of minus 8 degrees, with high winds of 63km/h.

Mr Wei is described as being of Asian appearance, about 172cm tall, with a medium build, black hair, and brown eyes.

Authorities are urging anyone with information on his whereabouts to contact Monaro Police District or Crime Stoppers at 1800 333 000.
