The smash closed southbound lanes for several hours.

A Perth father killed in a devastating crash in the city’s southern suburbs has been remembered by his grieving partner as a selfless provider who always put the needs of others before his own.

Cayne Popelier, 39, was behind the wheel of a truck that rolled on the Kwinana Freeway, slamming through a safety barrier south of Rowley Rd in Wandi on Friday.

The yellow Isuzu stopped next to train tracks and Popelier, an experienced civil drainer, died at the scene.

His long-time partner Sherry Daley said he was the love of her life.

The pair had been teenage sweethearts before welcoming their two children - a daughter now aged nine and a son, aged seven.

“Being with Cayne was the best thing that happened to me. From the age of 17, he was the man I always wanted,” Daley told 7NEWS.com.au.

“He was the best provider and would never let us go without.

“He was the one person everyone called for advice and help. He always saw the best in everyone and was willing to help out.

“There just wasn’t enough of him to go around.

“I will never love or be loved the way he loved me. Our children loved that he was a fun daddy.”

Adam Hume told 7NEWS.com.au that nobody could be counted on more than his friend of 15 years and said he would be “so badly missed”.

“I’m absolutely gutted, devastated,” he said.

“You could always rely on him. Whenever you needed him, he would be there.”

Hume said his pal was “the best dad”.

“He did absolutely everything for his kids, he went to every school function and you couldn’t beat him as a parent. His kids adored him,” Hume said.

Gary Tierney, Popelier’s boss at Drainage Services WA, described him as versatile and “meticulous”.

“(His death) was just a shock,” he said.

“He was very diligent. I’d say ‘that will do’ and he’d say ‘nah, it can be better’.

“We got on well. It’s such a shame.”

A GoFundMe campaign has been launched to cover costs for the beloved father’s funeral.

“With the sudden loss of Cayne, Sherry and the kids need everyone to come together and help contribute towards the send-off that this good man deserves,” coordinator Emma McKay said.

Friday’s devastating crash closed 3km of the freeway southbound between Rowley Rd and Anketell Rd for several hours.

Two tow trucks were called in to remove the wreckage.

Train services on the Mandurah line were also suspended, with replacement buses called in.

Major Crash detectives are investigating and have appealed for witnesses to come forward with information or dashcam footage.
