Five students hospitalised after school bus carrying 40 children crashes into tree in Sydney’s western suburbs

A busload of schoolchildren have been rescued after the vehicle left the road and collided with a tree in Sydney’s western suburbs.
Emergency services were rushed to Erskine Park on Thursday afternoon to reports of a bus crash.

But miraculously, police say all of the young passengers escaped without serious injury.

However, five students, all aged between 16 and 18, required hospital admission for further treatment – one with suspected fractures.
The driver of the vehicle was also treated by paramedics at the scene and taken to Westmead Hospital for further testing.
The incident happened on Erskine Park Road, shortly before 1pm.
The crash left the children, who were in years 11 and 12, shaken, but without physical injury.
All of the children have now been taken either back to their school or home.
Police say there were 41 students in total on board.
The northbound lane of Erskine Park Road continues to be closed.
