A mother-of-one who was rushed to hospital with serious injuries after being mauled by her dog in Sydney’s inner west has been identified.

Sophine ‘Kitty’ Devile, 47, was attacked by her black six-year-old Saint Bernard-cross, Buster, at her home on Edith Street, in Leichhardt, about 12.20am on Wednesday.

She was taken to Royal Prince Alfred Hospital with significant facial injuries in a serious condition.

Paramedics were seen covering Devile’s face with a towel as she was rolled out of her home on a stretcher and ushered into the back of an ambulance.

Her pink pyjama pants were covered in blood.

“I could hear her at the window screaming out for help like she was being attacked,” a neighbour told The Daily Telegraph.

“You could hear the kid and the mum both screaming for help, and the fire alarm going off, and the dog barking a little, we called triple-0 but weren’t actually sure what was going on.”

It’s understood the suggestion a fire alarm might’ve triggered the dog to attack is being investigated by council and police however the cause of the incident is yet to be confirmed.

Paramedics worked frantically on Devile, bandaging her face and arm — which appeared to have a significant gash — before rushing her to hospital.

NSW Police are investigating what happened.

Devile frequently doted on the family dog in posts online.

One post shows Buster cuddling up next to Devile’s young son, with the mother describing the pair as “bros for life”.

Other shots of the family pet show him curled up asleep on a pink blanket and posing with an orange bandana draped around his neck, alongside the caption: “Buster El cool guy”.

It is understood Buster has remained on the premises since the attack.

The Inner West Council has launched an investigation into the incident.
