Peter Slade: Man charged with murder after body found with significant injuries in Morwell, Victoria

A man has been charged with murder after a body was discovered with significant injuries in Victoria’s Gippsland region over the weekend.

Emergency services were called to a property on Langford St at Morwell, about 155km southeast of Melbourne, just before 4pm on Sunday.

The body of Peter Slade, 58, was found inside the property with significant injuries.

Police allege he died after being assaulted on Saturday.

Mr Slade’s family paid tribute to him on social media, saying he “had a heart of gold” and “a laugh that could be heard for miles”.

“We received the heart shattering news that you were taken away from us, it should have never happened and we hope justice gets served to the person who did this,” the post read.

“You were always there to give us a laugh from when we were kids and all the way into our adulthood.

“Sometimes you would drive us absolutely insane with your shenanigans but now we look back at them and realise how much laughter those shenanigans brought us.

“The world and Morwell won’t be the same without you, you will be forever in our hearts.”

Detectives arrested another Morwell man at Traralgon on Sunday.

The 43-year-old was interviewed by police, and has since been charged with murder.

“Police believe the parties involved were known to each other,” a spokesman said.
