A crisis summit involving government ministers and road safety experts has been called to figure out how to stop WA’s soaring road toll.
WA Premier Roger Cook said speed, people driving tired and distracted, people not driving to the conditions and people not wearing seatbelts were major factors in vehicle-related fatalities this year.
“It’s a combination of factors — obviously speed is the single biggest contributor (to road deaths),” Cook said.
“But we’re seeing road tolls increase in other states as well, Victoria’s having a horror year.
“I think this is something we share as a community and there’s no single silver bullet but together we can continue to build our ideas and work together to see if we can keep this road toll down as long as possible.”
The meeting will be held next month.
