A search and rescue operation was then launched, and the man was found an hour later about 2.30pm.

Emergency services gave the man medical assistance, but he died.

Queensland Police will now prepare a report for the coroner about the non-suspicious death.

Behana Gorge is a popular swimming spot for locals and tourists due to its pristine fresh water, but it is quite isolated as there is a 3km walk to get to the waterhole.
