Albanese briefed on shooting, urges anyone in area to listen to police

Anthony Albanese’s office has confirmed the Prime Minister has been briefed on the ongoing situation at Bondi Beach.

The Prime Minister’s team urged anyone in the area to listen to the police as they continue to deal with what is being called an active situation.

Police helicopters are using speakers in the area to tell people to leave if they can.

What is happening at Bondi now?

Police are moving as many people away from the scene as possible as NSW Ambulance paramedics treat victims in Bondi.

In the last few minutes, NSW Police confirmed that two people are in custody.

Police are urging anyone in the area to stay away from containment lines.

People in the area have been seen crying, hugging and distressed as a major operation continues.

Video has surfaced online showing what appears to be two men being cuffed by police.

The condition of the men is unclear.

The video shows the men restrained and being held down by officers and onlookers on a bridge that connects the street to the beach.

‘Take shelter’: NSW Police share urgent message

NSW Police are urging anyone in Bondi to take shelter.

“Avoid Bondi Beach area as the police operation continues,” a statement said.

“We are still asking people in the area to take shelter until we can determine what is happening.

“We have media officer en route to scene, more information when confirmed.”

Shooting event at Bondi Beach

Hundreds of people have been forced to run for their lives at Sydney’s famed Bondi beach as a reported mass shooting incident unfolded.

Footage posted to social media shows a swarm of beachgoers sprinting across the sand at North Bondi as several loud gunshots ring out.

In another clip, two males who appear to be dressed in black clothing can be seen discharging high powered rifles, resembling shotguns, in the street as bystanders scream.

A swarm of police are spotted descending on the chaotic scene and the gunshots continue to ring out.
