Central Coast: P-plate driver clocks 200km/h during pursuit and two high-range results in four hours

Police have charged a P-plate driver after he was clocked doing 200km/h before being stopped twice in four hours, recording a high-range drink driving reading on both occasions.

The man was charged following a high-speed police pursuit on the NSW Central Coast.

At bbout 8pm on Friday, police were conducting roadside testing on The Entrance Road, Bateau Bay, when a 24-year-old man allegedly returned a positive roadside test.

He was arrested and taken to The Entrance Police Station for a secondary test which returned an alleged reading of 0.149.

The man, from Buff Point, was issued a field court attendance notice to appear at Wyong Local Court on Monday 6 January 2024, for the offence of mid-range PCA. His P2 licence was suspended immediately.

Then at around 11:50pm, police were conducting stationary speed enforcement duties southbound on the Pacific Motorway at Warnervale when they saw a sedan driving northbound allegedly travelling at more than 200 km/h on the motorway with a signposted 110km/h speed zone.

The driver was followed to Morisset, where he was directed to stop by police activating lights and siren. The driver allegedly ignored the direction and accelerated away, increasing his speed to 150km/h and a pursuit was initiated.

Police will allege the sedan reached speeds of up to 185kmh before road spikes were successfully deployed with the vehicle coming to a stop on the Pacific Motorway at Black Hill.

The same driver was arrested and taken to Toronto police station where he was subjected to a second breath analysis which returned an alleged reading of 0.162.

The man has now been charged with four additional offences including:

• Drive recklessly/furiously or speed/manner dangerous (second offence)
• Police pursuit – not stop – drive dangerously
• Drive motor vehicle while licence suspended, and
• Drive with high-range PCA.

He was refused bail to appear before Parramatta Local Court on Saturday.
