Cowra death: Man dies after being found wandering highway seriously injured

A man has died after being discovered wandering along a highway with severe injuries, prompting NSW Police to launch a critical incident investigation.

Emergency services were called to a property in Cowra at 10.35pm on Tuesday to conduct a concern for welfare check.

Officers attached to Chifley Police District found the 43-year-old man with serious injuries to his arm walking along the Mid Western Highway, about 300km west of Sydney.

In a statement, NSW Police confirmed officers attempted to assist the man and paramedics from the NSW Ambulance Service administered treatment before transferring him to Cowra Hospital where he later died.

A critical incident team from central West Police District will investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident.

The investigation will be subject to an independent review, and a report will be prepared for the coroner.
