A man has been charged after throwing a rock at a marked police car before allegedly spitting at one of them during a dramatic arrest in Sydney’s CBD.

The man will face court on Monday charged with allegedly throwing a rock at the police car and spitting on an officer on Sunday evening.

At about 7pm on Sunday, an occupied fully marked police car was parked on George Street, when a rock was thrown at the vehicle.

Following inquiries, officers attached Sydney City police area command arrested a 40-year-old man at a nearby shopping centre.

During the arrest the man allegedly attempted to spit on an officer before being taken to Day Street police station.

He was charged with intentionally throwing an object at a vehicle/vessel risk safety, assault police officer in execution of duty without actual bodily harm and goods in personal custody suspected of being stolen.

The 40-year-old man was refused bail to appear before Downing Centre Local Court.
