Gunnedah: Search underway for missing swimmer, man failed to return after going in Namoi River

An urgent search is underway for a missing swimmer in NSW.

A man was reported missing after he failed to return from his swim in the Namoi River on Tuesday night.

Emergency services were called to the scene off Old Blue Vale Road in Gunnedah at about 7.35pm that evening after reports that the man had not resurfaced.

Attending police were told the unidentified 63-year-old had begun to struggle in the water before he disappeared.

A search was immediately commenced by the dog squad, paramedics, SES and the rural fire service.

They were not able to find the man. On Wednesday, the search resumed with assistance from police divers.
