Junee: Police hunt offenders after seven wedge-tailed eagles killed in alleged mass shooting

A local resident has made a horrific find after seven protected wedge-tailed eagles died following what police are alleging is a mass shooting.
The dead birds were discovered after a property owner found an injured eagle and called WIRES for assistance.
WIRES officials attended the scene to attend to the injured bird and immediately called police after the gruesome find of a further six dead birds.

By continuing you agree to our Terms and Privacy Policy.Police stated that an injured juvenile eagle was found on a property on Dollar Value Road, Eurongilly, about 22km south-east of Junee, last Saturday.
The property owner then called WIRES who attended the property the following day, Sunday April 6, and after further investigation they found six dead juvenile wedge-tailed eagles.
“The eagles appear to have been died at different times and were moved to the paddock, ‘ local police said.
“All birds, including the injured bird, were taken to a veterinary hospital, however, the injured eagle was later euthanized due to its injuries.
“After examining the bodies, the vet told police the birds most likely died as a result of being shot.”
Police are appealing for anyone who has any information or heard anything unusual in vicinity to contact Junee Police or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
Wedge-tailed eagles are a protected species in Australia and, if convicted, offenders can face fines or up to two years’ imprisonment.
