A 20-year-old man has been arrested after allegedly plotting a “retribution” rally in the wake of the anti-Semitic Bondi Beach massacre.

The social media post, which allegedly called on protesters to attend Cronulla Beach in Sydney’s South on Saturday, December 27, was detected by police working under Operation Shelter.

“Following extensive inquiries, police arrested a 20-year-old man in Narara about 1.40pm yesterday (Sunday, December 21),” NSW Police said in a statement.

He was taken to Gosford Police Station and charged with using a carriage service to menace, harass, offend and publicly threaten violence on the grounds of race and religion.

Anyone considering violence, retribution or vigilante behaviour is being reminded by NSW Police that a “swift and decisive response” will follow.

“While the NSW Police Force recognises people may want to protest due to recent events both here and overseas, we are asking the community to choose other ways to come together peacefully,” the statement continued.

“The NSW Police Force will also continue to take strong action against anyone who engages in criminal activity that is motivated by hate and anyone who believes they may be the victim of such a crime is urged to come forward.

“Now is a time for healing, unity and supporting one another. As we move toward 2026, it is vital that we stand together to ensure NSW remains a safer and inclusive place for everyone.”

Fronting media last week, NSW Premier Chris Minns said he was aware of the planned rally and warned those considering participating in such events.

“That will be met with the full force of the law. There will be no tolerance, no tolerance for any kind of retribution or some kind of vindictive counter-assault on anyone in our community,” Mr Minns said.

“We’re not going to allow ever a situation where we descend into some kind of lawlessness.

“If you’re considering participating in something like, that you can expect a massive overwhelming police response. It will not be tolerated,” he said.
