A 36-year-old man was arrested just before 11am in a phone box near Camden Valley Way.
He has been taken to Narellan Vale Police Station.
Camden Police Area Command Detective Chief Inspector Paul Albury said the man and the woman, who are in a relationship, were inside a car outside a Madison Court address when they got into a verbal argument.
That argument continued as they went inside the home and escalated when the man allegedly smashed the TV and then struck the woman in the head with a glass vase causing abrasions and lacerations.
The woman then called triple-0 and ran out the front of the house seeking assistance.
“It is alleged the 36-year-old man got into a Mazda sedan and reversed that sedan, striking the woman and running over her, at which time he then left the scene,” Inspector Albury said.
The car was found in nearby Wattle Green Place and that has now been declared a crime scene
“When the police arrived on scene they were met with a pretty horrendous sort of scene where a woman has suffered serious injuries.
“There were three children inside the home at the time of the incident ranging in age from 15 to six. Those children were unharmed.”
While her injuries are still being assessed, it is believed the woman has a broken pelvis and internal injuries as well as facial injuries.
Inspector Albury said there was no previous history of domestic violence reported to police between the pair and there was no current AVO in place.
“Obviously, our thoughts and prayers are with that family at the moment, and we’re hopeful that she will recover from those injuries.”
Inspector Albury said a number of witnesses came to the aid of the woman following the incident.
“People obviously are deeply shocked by what has occurred. It’s a quiet neighbourhood.
“They are stunned by, obviously, the level of violence that’s been displayed and we’re very grateful that through quick resolution that we have the man in custody.”
Inspector Albury said domestic violence was the most frequently attended crime by local police.
“On average, here in Camden, we attend one domestic violence incident every two hours,” he said.
“No community is immune from domestic violence. It’s imperative that we as a community take up the fight together and that if you see something, say something because only through everybody taking a stance against it will never be solved.
“The moment that we turn a blind eye, don’t say something about the things that we see we’re only empowering the domestic violence offenders.
The NSW Government on Wednesday launched a landmark strategy to respond to domestic and family violence perpetrators.
The strategy will continue work already underway including the Men’s Behaviour Change Program, strengthening services, building evidence on effective interventions, improving collaboration between services and evaluating progress.
Wednesday also marked the final day of the 16 days of activism against gender-based violence.
In 2024, NSW Police recorded more than 100,000 domestic violence–related crimes, and 39 people in the state were killed in domestic violence-related murders.
In the last 10 years, domestic violence sexual offences increased by 103 per cent, domestic violence assaults by 31 per cent and breaches of apprehended violence orders by 90 per cent.
Police have urged anyone in the vicinity of Maddison Court shortly before 8.30am and has information about the incident or with dashcam vision to contact Narellan Vale Police Station or Crime Stoppers 1800 333 000.
