A motorcyclist has been airlifted to hospital after he was impaled by a pair of scissors in a freak accident on a NSW road.

Paramedics were called to an address at Watatamondara, 15km from Cowra, about 1.30pm on Sunday to reports a motorcyclist had been injured.

The rider had suffered serious leg injuries when he was impaled by the scissors.

He was treated at the scene before he was driven to Cowra Airport and taken by helicopter to Orange Health Service in a serious condition.

The matter is being treated as misadventure, a NSW Police spokesperson told 7NEWS.com.au, describing it as a “freak accident”.
