Oberon: Father critical after son discharges weapon and shoots him during Easter game hunt in NSW

An Easter hunting trip has turned to tragedy after a son discharged his weapon and shot his father.

The man is in a critical condition after being shot during a hunting trip near Oberon in NSW.

At about 8.50pm on Friday, emergency services responded to reports of a man being shot on a rural property along Campbells River Road, Black Springs, approximately 20km south of Oberon.

Paramedics responded and treated the 70-year-old man for a gunshot wound to the right shoulder. He was airlifted to Westmead Hospital in a critical condition.

Police said investigations uncovered the wounded man and his 47-year-old son were securing firearms on the back of a utility when a round discharged from the younger mans weapon.

Both men had been shooting game on the property before the incident.

A crime scene has been established and an investigation into the incident is ongoing.
