Holiday commuters and transport deliveries on the nations busiest highway have been thrown into chaos after a truck carrying a massive load of fresh green prawns crashed and lost it’s load.

Highway patrol and local authorities closed the Pacific Highway at Coffs Harbour in both directions after the transport truck carrying prawns crashed and spilled diesel across lanes of the motorway near the Coast Hotel at around 2.40am.

As thousands of commuters and delivery trucks try to move up and down the far north coast of NSW, movement has ground to a halt which will have flow-on effects throughout the day.

All lanes in both directions have been closed and drivers are encouraged to avoid the area and change the commute times to avoid long delays.

Diversions are in place in both directions to Stadium Drive, Hogbin Drive and Orlando St to return to the Pacific Highway.

This diversion is suitable for light vehicles, and heavy vehicles up to and including semi-trailers only. Heavy vehicles including 19m B-doubles (Over 50 tonnes) are being parked until the incident is resolved.
