Alleged child groomer arrested getting off cruise in Sydney

A man has been arrested getting off a cruise ship at Sydney Harbour after he allegedly tried to groom a child for sexual activity.

The 48-year-old was arrested at the International Passenger Terminal at Sydney at 7am Friday.

Detectives began investigating the Griffith man in June after he allegedly attempted to contact children for sexual activity.

“During the investigation, the man allegedly sent inappropriate photos and videos to — who he believed — was a 14-year-old girl,” police said.

Police claim he made plans to meet with the young girl once his cruise ended in Sydney.

He has since been charged with using a carriage service to procure a child under 16 years for sexual activity and was refused police bail.

He was due to face Downing Centre Local Court on Friday.

Investigations continue and police ask anyone with information to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or report online via nsw.crimestoppers.com.au.
